How it feels Like freefall There is nothing I can do I am plummeting toward the ground With nothing to grab onto Yet I feel You all about me The only One I can cling to I remind myself I chose to jump And fall deeper into You
How it feels Like limbo I'm in a vague and formless place I see shadow forms around me But cannot discern a trace Of the path I thought would be so clear When I chose to run this race But I know You are always with me I can rest in Your embrace
How it feels Upheaval Please heed my appeal My world is wildly rocking Return me to an even keel Remind me I am close beside You Love me, hold me, and reveal It is only with my eyes on You I can perceive what is real
How it feels Committed I to You and You to me I am aware of Your presence Despite all my uncertainty I resolve to trust in You For You are my assurity You will guide me ever onward And give me eyes to see
It’s National Poetry Month and thus I am taking a brief hiatus from my study posts. I’ll be celebrating poetry all this month and will share new poems for my regular Monday posts but will also spotlight a few of my favorites throughout the month. I am continuing my study of darkness and plan to return to Isaiah 45:7 in May.

Prayer in Dark Times
To them who love the Lord
I dedicate this prayer
May we turn our eyes to Jesus
Show our neighbors that we care
May we show them love unfailing
Unconditional but not compliant
May we show God's grace unending
That on Him we're all reliant
Let us have mercy for our fellow man
Instead of condemnation
Let us leave our judgments with the Lord
Let us see their desperation
May we be a light in darkness
For we know the One they seek
And when they turn and ask us
May it be His words we speak
May we be Jesus personified
To everyone we see
And in this present darkness
May you say these words to me
Jesus, Lord of my Beginning Origin of all I see Hear me as I cry to You Come beside and comfort me Tell me who I truly am Remind me of the name I lost Keep my heart anchored in Yours Because on rough waves I am tossed.
Jesus, Lord of all my Wanderings God of the Middle too Upholding all things with Your Word Nothing exists outside of You Lead me through this present darkness Illuminate me with Your Light Hide me in Your Secret Place Where there is found no more night.
Jesus, Lord of where I’m Ending All Creation rests in You Show me more than merest inkling Tell me all that You will do Speak words of Consuming Fire That will cleanse and purify Pull me close and keep me sheltered As we live life eye to eye.
Show me who I’m meant to be So You alone I glorify.
